On June 12th 2006 parents recieved emails citing that the club for girls was going to close. Reports cited that they did not get enough membership numbers. However, a number of collectors with children reported spam and strange megssages making many in collectors circles also wonder if they were having security issues. That same day memberships were closed off. The official closing date of the club will be August 15, 2006. Many items were sold out within days of the announcement of the pending closing.

The American Girl Club One-Year Membership

Club members can take part in special activities, earn Stars, collect Treasures, and send messages to new friends online. As part of the membership, girls receive a charm bracelet with a Club charm, and a detailed Girl’s Guide to help them get started. Moms receive a Mom’s Manual describing safety features and site navigation, and a $10 coupon for their next American Girl purchase. Throughout the year, members will also have access to Club-exclusive items and sneak previews of select American Girl products.
American Girl Club contains unprecedented safety features to protect children’s online privacy, and meets the requirements of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
